We are in our own home, perfectly aware of our self, our friends, the walls, the light, the furniture

And yet we are also caught in the plot, the scenery, the desires and actions of the actors a the director, the writers.

We are not so lost that we cannot chat with each other about how well or poorly the movie unfolds–we keep our distance without trying–

But the movie does transform us–a good one raises not only our mood but our morality.

Happy people inspire us to be happy,

Good ones to be good,

Funny ones to take ourselves not quite so seriously.

And perhaps, for a while, we forget our own lives are roles in a cosmic movie.

And then, perhaps, we remember.

Thank you, God, for movies–both kinds.
