These mountains bring a sense of deep peace

But it is not the mountains we cherish–it is the peace.

Why peace is more available in the mountains, by the lakes,

We do not know

But we know that peace is within us as it is within mountains.

And we know that unless that peace is open to us all day,

Every day,

We will be slaves to mountains and trees –

Delighted slaves, happy slaves, but slaves.

We choose to refine our eyes, ears and mind,

Our heart and attention

And so to be free.

So to be useful,

So to be peaceful,

So to be free.
